Sir Henry Bard was granted an Achievement of Arms in March 1644. The following is the description of those arms from the grant.
Sable on a chevron between ten marlets six and four argent, five pellets.
A canton Or, charged with the rose of England, ensigned with a royal crown.
The augmentation of honour was awarded by Charles I to all those who had "valiantly and faithfully adhered to him during the unnatural Rebellion, by way of Augmentation, out of his Royall Badges, such additions unto their arms as might aptly testify to the nature of their worth and meritt."
An arm embowed holding a sword, the arm showing a wound.
The wound is a reference to the wound he sustained at the Battle of Cheriton Wood, in March 1644.
On the Dexter side a man in armour murally crowned Or, holding in his exterior hand a spear [pike] at the first tipped Argent. On the Sinister side a man as before holding in his exterior hand a musket propper.
Although in the grant of supporting arms (re-produced above) the figures are shown unarmoured, in buffcoats, with spurred boots and red breeches, black neck-socks, red waist sashes, swords susspended from the waist and white scarfs tied in the bend of their left arms. The sinisiter (left) figure appears to be holding a horse pistol, rather than a musket.
It is possible the white scarfs around the bend of the arms are either a battle sign used by the regiment or another reference to the injury sustained by Bard at Chertion. Quite possibly it is both: a battle sign used by the regiment as a reference to the injury.
